Kellie Phelan left Rikers Island penniless and with a baby in her arms. Hour Children welcomed them with a warm place to live and a fresh start.
Kellie Phelan spent years strung out on heroin and crack as her daughter, Brittanie, cried herself to sleep at night. Kellie, meanwhile, wound up behind bars, where she gave birth to her second child.
But this time when Kellie left jail, Hour Children offered her a home and the skills she needed to turn her life around. Says Brittanie, "Hour Children gave me my mother back."
